Training your health

February 18, 2008

At the gym I see women working out with little coloured dumbbells. Every single day, they’re doing the same exercises with the same weights. They probably think that if they pick up heavier weights, they’ll suddenly become “manly” – nonsense!

If you diet without training, you will lose muscle. In nutrition-terms: your metabolism will slow down. You will need to eat less and less. The easiest way ‘neverending diet cycle’ is to build up muscle & train properly.

Your muscle is an active tissue. It translates into this: it burns calories even while you’re resting. As you increase your muscle mass, you’ll need more calories to keep your body weight constant. I you are dieting, you’ll find that you can keep losing bodyfat without staying hungry.

While aging, one’s body will slowly lose muscle at the rate of five to ten pounds every  decade. This is the main reason why many people gain weight as they age. Less muscle leads to a slower metabolism – one needs fewer calories at age 40 than he/she did at 30. The only way to help your body help you, is to get into the gym and start training!
